THE CODE OF ETHICS
PREAMBLE
Members of the BYTNC. shall consider the welfare of all Biewers to be of primary importance, will become familiar with, and abide by the rules of the BYTNC and the Standard of the breed.
OWNERSHIP
All dogs owned by members of the BYTNC. shall be maintained under sanitary and pleasant conditions, treated humanely at all times and given necessary health care.
BREEDING
Members are responsible for maintaining the quality and continuation of the Biewer Yorkshire Terrier as a purebred dog. In a breeding program, they will always strive to breed the highest quality Biewers and will use the approved Standard of the Club as a guide. Members will follow Club Rules for Breeding. BYTNC's Breeders Code.
Members will keep in mind the health, conformation, temperament, and possible hereditary defects of the Biewers being bred and keep informed in the areas of dog health and genetics, will carefully screen all breeding stock for hereditary faults or disqualifying defects, removing any questionable animals from their breeding program.
Members will maintain complete and accurate breeding records of all dogs used for this purpose. All dogs shall be micro chipped or tattooed for identification.
All puppies and adults shall be sold in a clean and healthy condition, and shall be old enough to make the necessary adjustment to a new home safely with 10 weeks being minimum.
No adult or puppy shall be sold without adequate protection against disease.
Members will offer at public stud only those dogs which are an attribute to the breed, and will allow their use only on purebred registered bitches.
A puppy or adult showing a serious deviation from the Standard, rendering it unsuitable for breeding, shall be neutered or sold without papers. This shall be clearly understood by the buyer, and shall have a signed statement to that effect. All other puppies or adults shall be registered or eligible for registration with the DHZ, and the purchaser shall be provided with accurate and valid papers.
If any litters from a breeding with a Blue/Black - Gold/Tan, produce Blue/Black - Gold/Tan offspring, said offspring shall be considered and referred to as Yorkshire Terriers, not Biewer Yorkshire Terriers. To be considered a Biewer, the offspring have to be marked to the standard of the breed. The BYTNC does not promote the breeding of a Yorkshire to Biewer as a common breeding practice. That these said breedings should be a scientific breeding and only done when following the breeding rules for the BYTNC members. The Club understands that there are half Biewers used for the development of new lineage for the breed. The results of using these dogs as a breeding equation the offspring MUST be registered accordingly.
Members do not sell litters wholesale, or sell to (or place Biewers with) pet shops, pet dealers of any kind, catalog houses, or any other commercial distributors.
Members never breed using profit as a motive without regard to quality or conformation.
Members will encourage any puppy buyers to apply for membership in the Club.
All members shall take full responsibility for every litter they breed. If it becomes necessary, they agree to take back any dog or puppy sold or placed by them.
CONDUCT
Members will conduct all kennel practices in a clear, honorable and open fashion, and use written agreements or contracts.
No advertising shall be false or misleading. All claims, both written and oral, shall be factual and honest in both substance and implication.
Members will uphold all rules applying to Dog Shows and Registration.
A co-owner of a Biewer shall have the same responsibilities that a sole owner has. The breach of one member of this Code of Ethics does not in any way absolve another member from any obligations under the Code.
While showing, breeding, or owning Biewers, every member should be a worthy representative of the BYTNC and feel personally obligated to protect the interests of the Biewer by conducting themselves in a positive manner, serving as an example of good sportsmanship in every aspect of the sport of dogs.
Members shall assist and befriend newcomers and novices to the best of their ability.
Members shall not use the Club for personal gain or profit.
EXPULSION
Any member who shall disregard this Code of Ethics will be subject to suspension or expulsion from the BYTNC in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws of the Club.
In the event of a complaint lodged against members with the BYTNC, members shall agree to extend cooperation in the resolution of said complaint.
