Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Biewer Yorkshire Terrier National Club (BYTNC) website. We are pleased you have come to visit us. We are a group of Biewer Yorkshire Terrier ala pom pon breeders and fanciers who have established high goals for the betterment of the breed. We hope you find our site educational as well as enjoyable to view.
If you are new to the Biewer Yorkshire, we hope you take the time to really research this wonderful toy breed and fall in love with them as much as we have. The first Biewers were born in Germany over 22 years ago from two traditional Yorkshire Terriers who carried the recessive piebald gene. This produced marking and colors which have developed into the Biewer standards of today. This is a young breed recognized by the International All Breed Club Association (IABCA) and the Rarities and North American Kennel Club (NAKC) with Biewers currently being shown in both clubs here in America. The BYTNC registers our dogs with the Vereinigten Rassehunde-Züchter e.V. (DHS e.V) in Germany in order to continue in the direction of Werner Biewer, the founding father of the Biewer Yorkshire Terrier.
There are several clubs in the United States at this time. Please take time to contact all the clubs to learn which club is right for you. It is best to have their representative explain their programs to you, as they are the only ones that should speak about their goals for the breed. I would be more than happy to help you with the direct link to their sites, in order to contact them.
Our club is dedicated to studying the effect of the piebald gene in this breed. We are actively researching, with the help of professors of genetics and veterinarians who have specialized in the effect of the piebald gene in breeding. We will hold seminars to educate those interested. It will be open to the public and you do not have to become a member to attend these seminars. Please bookmark our news page as this is where we will be posting these events, as well as our specialty shows and other exciting news.
The BYTNC will record all litters and their lineage to ensure the proper development of this breed. All breeding Biewers will be DNA tested to endorse the authenticity of a purebred Biewer.
I believe it is important to have our dogs judged for conformation of standards and I encourage breeders to enter the show ring. BYTNC feels that temperament plays a large role in the breeding of our dogs and will always be a factor in our breeding programs. If you study the breed standards of the Yorkshire Terrier, it mirrors the Biewer standards in all areas other than color.
Due to geographic limitations, we hold club meetings on-line, conference calls and at show events, so all members can participate. We are a close group who have respect for each other and have made a life-long commitment to the Biewer Yorkshire Terrier.
Susan Williams
President of the BYTNC
